for three performers
still is a physical meditation for musicians, a performance piece that seeks transcendence through rigorous practice. The piece zooms in on one small portion of the K-Pop band Perfume’s song Perfect Star Perfect Style, which provides specific pitch material, as well as an exploded formal structure. The performers, arranged in the formation of a fabulous pop trio, vocalize these and other pitches whilst simultaneously crafting an intuitive movement language in real time. Sound and silence simultaneously challenge the space, and culminate in a quote from Sebastian Lellio’s film A Fantastic Woman, as performed by Daniela Vega. The piece was premiered and workshopped with the fabulous Tyler Cunningham, Emilie Fortin, and Eliza Shephard.
